Bloom is hiring a

Founding iOS Product Designer

Position Type: Full-time (long-term contract transitioning to employment if desired)

Location: Remote | US Time Zones (UTC-10 to UTC-4) preferred

Introduction

Bloom is a new startup incubated by Eido Studios in San Diego, California. We’re looking for an iOS product designer to be the first designer to join our team and work with our founder to design and build our product from napkin sketch to shipping app. Our app will capture and save sounds — specifically, human voices — and allow us all to learn more about the people in our lives in a fun, game-like way. In a sense, the app will save people, and over time, we think it can save everyone. This is a fully remote position and will be a full-time, long-term contract to start, with the opportunity to transition to full-time employment as the company grows.

What you’ll do

  • Be the designer who creates the user experience and user interface that brings Bloom to life. Bloom is an app where the user experience will be especially key to reaching full potential, and we’ll need you to iterate, experiment, and doggedly explore until the experience is just right.
  • Help our founder and CEO shape Bloom’s vision, product strategy, and feature set
  • Work with our founding developer to create a lively and delightful user experience that puts a smile on our users’ faces and keeps them coming back for more
  • Create all the deliverables to move the product design process forward, from user flows, to the wireframes, to prototypes, to the final visuals and animations of the shipping app
  • Help define our design and product culture and processes
  • Do all of this in a startup environment with limited resources 😀

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing native iOS apps in the consumer/social space
  • A passion for designing great products that make people happy
  • A preference for hand-crafting great, native iOS apps instead of “iOS” apps built with cross-platform frameworks
  • Proficiency with all aspects of product design, including research and UX design, with strong skills in UI and visual design
  • An intense hunger to design a Apple-Design-Award-worthy iOS app (previous experience designing a Apple-Design-Award-winning iOS app is also acceptable 😉)
  • An understanding of what’s possible in modern iOS development and the latest design patterns and trends of the platform
  • Experience with motion and interaction design, including the use of tools like Lottie and After Effects
  • Experience designing for accessibility
  • A nearly pathological desire to fix typos, misaligned elements, incorrect tints, and mistimed animations
  • Fluency in Figma
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • A comfort with working in a startup environment as the sole designer on the team (until we grow, which you’ll help us do)

Bonus points for...

  • Experience designing a v1 or v2 product
  • Experience writing code and developing iOS user interfaces
  • Experience designing social games
  • Experience designing interfaces for Android and mobile web
  • A talent for sound design, illustration, branding, web design, or video 🦄

Please include with your application

  • A portfolio of UI design work on which you were the primary designer
  • Your CV or LinkedIn profile
  • Three examples of what you would consider to be “well-designed” iOS apps
  • A sentence or two about why Bloom is interesting to you
