We are looking for savvy digital news designers to help elevate our journalism across digital platforms. The designers would be responsible for building sophisticated digital news packages that reflect the tone of the content and clearly speaks to the targeted audience.

Designers will collaborate with planners and journalists to determine the ideal interplay of narrative and other media elements, including video, photography, audio and graphics. Candidates must be able to juggle the execution of multiple articles at once, while also working with the planners to ensure story assets are arriving as expected to meet deadlines. They’ll also works with the audience team to ensure the digital presentations are aligned tightly with search, social, newsletter and on-site promotion tactics.

Candidates must have the ability to work independently and with people especially under deadline. They should also be creative and able to think beyond the obvious, packaging visuals and words that engage readers, while being able to discern the news value of stories.

Experience with digital design for a daily or college news organization required. Good communications skills and solid news judgment are musts. Experience designing under pressure in a deadline-driven environment required. Experience with graphics and illustrations preferred.

This is a temporary 3-month position with full-time hours. As part of a 24-hour/7-day/365 day news operation, this role may include early morning, night and/or weekend work.
