We're looking for a Designer to join the team at MASS. We design digital products, websites and kinetic brands. Our folio includes a wide range of visual outcomes but a lot of our work includes designing the things you don’t see. We are design-led and foster a very direct working relationship with our clients and their audiences. We're really excited about the future and looking for passionate people to join our diverse team.

Please note that this is a predominantly in-studio role and applicants will only be considered if they are based in Melbourne.

  • To experience different ways of working that prioritise efficiency and direct communication over different layers of staff
  • A level of autonomy with the projects you're involved in
  • The chance to lead projects and develop your own style of delivering work with the full support of the Creative and Design Director
  • To be a part of a supportive design-led environment that places a huge emphasis on the thoughts and opinions of everyone in the studio
  • To put your work in front of real users, validate assumptions and learn about the benefits of continuous improvement

The types of designers we're after are the ones who:

  • Enjoy collaborating directly with other designers and clients
  • Enjoy being involved in projects from inception to final delivery and handover
  • Can confidently communicate ideas and solutions at both a conceptual and finished art level

  • Are constantly learning and looking to improve themselves at every opportunity
  • Want to help others in the studio get better at their own craft
  • Constantly and consistently question if the work we're doing is the best it can possibly be
  • Never settle for the first option
  • Are always on the lookout for better or more efficient ways of doing things
  • Can contribute to the overall design intelligence of the studio
  • Can help clients increase their own design maturity internally
  • Can be an advocate for design and human-centred design thinking
  • Have a genuine passion for design

The skills and experience we think are the most important:

  • Proven UX, UI and interaction design experience across digital products, platforms, websites and/or mobile apps
  • Ability to confidently work across the entire design lifecycle; i.e. from IA, ideation and wireframing, through to UI design, prototyping, user validation and finished art
  • Expertise in Figma and other prototyping tools
  • Experience with a range of user research methods and techniques
  • Experience in validating design work through user testing (e.g. facilitating testing sessions and/or in the creation of research plans and test scripts)
  • Experience working in an agile or sprint-based environment with designers, developers, product owners and other stakeholders
  • Experience working across a variety of industries (e.g. financial services, energy, sport, the arts)
  • Experience in creating, using and/or maintaining component-based design systems for digital products, mobile apps or websites
  • Ability to recognise patterns when designing interactions and user flows
  • Ability to confidently balance product, business and customer priorities
  • Ability to confidently break down large pieces of design work into achievable outcomes
  • Ability to confidently estimate design work based on time available
  • Ability to confidently present and rationalise design work to other colleagues and clients

Bonus skills that we really like, but aren't essential:

  • Motion graphics and animation, either 2D or 3D
  • Copywriting
  • Brand and identity design
