  • Compensation Minimum:$51,600
  • Compensation Maximum:$77,400


This position provides basic preparation of tax returns, payments, and financial statement estimates and accruals. Assists with audit defense and systems maintenance and development. Completes research, planning, and consulting with a basic level of complexity and materiality. Works under the supervision of the Tax Manager and experienced tax staff.

Job Description:

Primary Accountabilities
Tax Returns & Payments (45%)

  • Completes1099 or other reconciliations at a basic level of complexity.
  • Prepares subsidiary federal and state income tax returns and computes quarterly state income tax payments.
  • Assists in the preparation of AFLIC and/or AFMIC federal income tax returns at a basic level of complexity.
  • Prepares premium tax, and sales and use tax returns and payments at a a basic level of complexity.
  • Assists in the control and periodic maintenance of computer-related systems and/or software. (i.e. 1099, fixed asset tax depreciation, income tax preparation).

Financial Statement Estimates & Accruals (40%)

  • Calculates the subsidiary monthly and/or quarterly federal and state income tax entries.
  • Assists an experienced tax accountant with reviewing post employment benefit plan assumptions, analyzing agent and employee census data, preparing benefits footnote disclosures, pension funding recommendations, and monthly and quarterly benefits accounting at a basic level of complexity.

Research, Planning, and Consulting (10%)

  • Completes research, project implementation, and tax counsel as assigned by the Tax Manager on matters of basic complexity.
  • Keeps current on tax matters relating to assigned responsibilities.
  • Answers tax questions with a basic level of complexity and materiality for various business partners.
  • Consults with various business partners on projects and issues with a basic level of complexity and materiality.

Audit Defense (5%)

  • Assists an experienced tax accountant in the defense of state and local income, premium, and sales / use tax audit issues of basic complexity and materiality.
  • Assists an experienced tax accountant in the defense of federal income tax audit issues in areas of basic complexity and materiality.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of general accounting concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience with PC software applications (Microsoft Office Suites, Internet Explorer).
