Acorns is seeking a Banking Operations Associate to execute daily back-office operations for our Banking product. This is an individual contributor role that will report directly to the Banking Operations Manager. The Banking Operations Associate will become a subject matter expert of our core processing admin platform and will help with customer experience enhancements, all customer communications, perform risk reviews, customer suspicious activity reviews, and other operational projects as assigned.

This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA or New York, NY offices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities within your scope and develop creative solutions
  • Complete Risk reviews for outsorted spend transactions and manage reports and processes aligned with this
  • Manage and respond to all tickets in the Risk Queue
  • Perform daily tasks to ensure accounts are being unlocked timely
  • Make, review, and take action on three way phone calls for suspicious transfers
  • Assist the support team with questions related to locked accounts and suspicious activity
  • Closures for spend accounts completed in batch and manually based on process
  • Manage the collections process for the Checking program
  • Review of various risk-related items from our banking partner
  • Ability to be flexible with working hours, including weekends ( if needed)

Within 1 month you will:

  • Introduce yourself and become integrated with the Acorns team, specifically the Banking Ops team
  • Understand the current bank processes for daily Banking Operations Within 6 months you will:
  • Be autonomously performing day-to-day operations tasks for risk outsort reviews, MRDC check reviews, return transaction reviews, negative balance/collection activities, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend changes and improvements to the daily processes and systems to ensure scalability
  • Meet deadlines and ensure that processes are being executed accurately, timely, and in an efficient manner
  • Work cross-functionally with Support Leads to ensure training is happening for processes related to your role.
  • Assist the Banking Operations team with ongoing and special projects as needed

Within 6 months you will:

  • Be autonomously performing day-to-day operations tasks for risk outsort reviews, MRDC check reviews, return transaction reviews, negative balance/collection activities, etc.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend changes and improvements to the daily processes and systems to ensure scalability
  • Meet deadlines and ensure that processes are being executed accurately, timely, and in an efficient manner

  • Assist the Banking Operations team with ongoing and special projects as needed

Within 12 months you will:

Continue to work with the team to grow and scale the systems/processes for the Banking Operations Team.

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • BA/BS degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of support/operations experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently, but unafraid to ask questions
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Driven to learn fast, be creative, and win as a team
  • Experience working in an Agile environment or prior start-up experience strongly preferred
